Next fall, St. Charles Community College will unveil its third National Junior College Athletic Association sanctioned sport when the men's and women's soccer clubs become full-fledged intercollegiate sports teams. The decision to make the move was approved last spring and the teams will debut with a 20-game season on August 1, 2009.

Area demand for the sport is strong and led to the founding of the Soccer Club in 2006. Originally a co-ed squad, it has since split into men's and women's club sports.

"The club was intended to become a NJCAA sport," said Athletic Director Chris Gober. "Our recruiting base will certainly include the St. Charles area."

The women will be coached by Roxanne Simpson while the men will be coached by Thomas Kearns. Home games will be held on the multi-purpose field near the corner of Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Ohmes Road that is used by the club teams.

Soccer will join men's baseball and women's softball as the only NCJAA sanctioned sports teams at SCC. Although the Roller Hockey Club participates in the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association and the Great Plains Collegiate Inline Hockey League, it is technically still a club sport.
