St. Charles Community College is once again offering an extensive lineup of summer camps for kids aged 4 - High School. The program, called "College for All Kids", starts the week of June 8 and continues through the week of August 10.
"Most of them will go to camp in the morning; we'll take them at lunch, they'll get to experience the cafeteria…they'll get a chance to play in the gym, shoot a little hoops…and then go back and do the rest of their camps in the afternoon. They have a good time; it's a lot different from the typical recreational camps; we have the educational component here," said Kathy Stearns, Program Specialist.
The camps range from sports and dance camps to art, drama, and literature camps, and everything in between. Some of the particularly unique camps include a "Grossology" camp, which allows kids to experiment with chemistry, and a "Murder Mystery Theater" camp, in which kids can create their own murder mystery. Each of the camps lasts a week. Said Stearns, "[The kids] can actually come all summer and do something different every single week."
According to Stearns, the majority of instructors for the courses are certified teachers from local schools.
The program has had a good turnout in the past. "Last year we had over 350 kids come to our camps," said Stearns.
