Saturday, Feburary 27th marked the first in a series of auditions for the SCCC play "Isn't it Romantic" directed by Deborah Phillips. This will be Deborah's fourth play she has directed at SCCC out of her 14 years teacher theater here. She chose to do this play in honor of the playwright of "Isn't it Romantic", Wendy Wasserstein, who passed away in 2006. Her messages she portrayed about women's rights in her time made her a very important playwright of the 70's and 80's.

Ten very talented actors and actresses came out to try their like luck at one of the four men and four women parts of the play. There was a wide spectrum of people attending, and it wasn't just limited to SCC students. Sam Bonomo, who attends Lindenwood University for performing arts, hopes to one day become a big performing star in Chicago or New York and is currently working her way up to the top. When asked why she chose this particular play she said, "I've done their musicals here since I was fifteen, so I know the director and a lot of the people who are auditioning for it, so I just auditioned for this one." With the enthusiasm and excitement behind her voice you could tell she was doing something she loved.

Josh Rowland, currently attending is final semester here at SCCC, is also trying his luck at the play. Josh has been performing since his sophomore year in high school in 2002, and next year is planning on moving out to Los Angeles in pursuit of becoming a film actor. "I'm gonna go out there, get an extremely small apartment, and go to every audition known to man to survive." He said with laughter behind his words, knowing a challenging yet exciting life awaits him.

While there were plenty of people there with a lot of experience under their belts, not all the people auditioning were seasoned vets. For Jordan Shelton, this was a totally new experience for him, as it was his first audition. "I took Deborah Phillips acting 101 class last semester just starting out after graduating high school and after taking her class it kind of warmed me up to it." This goes to show that everybody from all walks of life are always welcome to audition for SCCC plays, so if you ever see anything you might be interested in, don't be shy!
