Students Party on a Friday Night

It is Friday night; do you know where your friends are? Whether it is partying it up at a friend’s house, or hitting the bar scene, Friday nights for college students mark the beginning of the weekend and a time to unwind and have fun!

So, as the weekend rolls in and the nights roll out, where do all the college students go to party? Local bars are always a good place to ‘chill’ with friends while often enjoying live music, karaoke, pool, and of course those ever pleasing drink specials. Additionally, at most venues ladies are generously awarded free drinks one night of the week; however, ‘creepers’ come out on these nights. So watch out ladies!

An SCC student and avid bar hopper, Brittany Sheridan, shares a story about ladies night, “I have this friend that I go to ladies night with, and she likes to dance and make-out with random guys, usually creepers. I have to keep her check.”

Whether it is a Frat or Sorority party, or just a good old house party, college students arrive early in the evening and vacate early the following morning. Popular card games such as ‘circle of death,’ ‘Irish poker,’ and ‘sevens’ keep the party rolling and the drinks flowing. Although, for those with good hand-eye coordination, a beer pong tournament would play well in their favor.

Melinda, a student, states, “Turrets is my favorite drinking game because it’s easy, anyone can play it, and it’s very entertaining to see what’s on people’s minds.”

Holidays are always a staple for intense college parties; giving students an excuse to dress up in ridiculous costumes, or attend a parade full of beads and madness. However, after finals parties are something college students really put all their heart and soul into because finishing another semester of college takes a huge weight off students’ shoulders.

Mizzou’s former ‘Van Wilder’, Andrew Clynes, states, “The hardest partying is done after finals because you’re done with classes and everyone pretty much just blacks out. Plus, you sell your books back, so you have extra cash to spend on alcohol. So it’s pretty much a party from the point you sell your books back until you come home; epic partying.”

Of course, partying does have its negatives as well. The notorious hangover gets the best of us all every now and then; for finding a cure makes for an essential mission that often results in interesting concoctions of foods and drinks.

Mallory Huth, a student at Maryville, shares her favorite hangover remedy, “My favorite hangover food is grilled cheese with pepperonis and tomato soup. Me and my friends make this the morning after parties or the bar and watch movies all day; it’s the best!”

While all this partying may sound like a lot of fun, it can quickly turn into a very bad situation. College students around the globe have been seriously injured and even killed from too much drinking and too little responsibility, not to mention the devastating effects this all too often has on innocent bystanders. If one drinks and is not responsible, they could even end up losing their scholarships, or forfeiting their chances of receiving one in the future. So be responsible, always pre-designate a sober driver, and kick it like a college student this weekend!
